Naturopathic Medicine Week…Why I Became a Naturopathic Doctor!

May 12- May 18, 2014 is Naturopathic Medicine Week!

Naturopathic Medicine

Is a medicine that combines science with art.  It’s about using the healing powers of nature to address the root cause of disease.

Naturopathic Doctor

To become a Naturopathic Doctor requires an undergraduate education and than an additional 4 years of naturopathic medical school.

My story…my love for the profession!

When I was in high school I got a part time job after school at a health food store…that was the beginning of my journey.  I began to learn all the vitamins and supplements in the store.  When a customer came in I knew exactly what they always bought and was able to explain the reasons for and against taking a particular supplement.  At a young age I took it upon myself to learn them on my own.

I still remember coming home from work after school and telling my mom how it would be cool if there were doctors who only prescribed natural products…not knowing the profession existed.

When I was in my third year university I meet a representative from the school during career day.  I was so excited, now this time calling my mom with excitement and telling her that the profession did exist.

During those years my plan had been applying to teachers college or doing a masters in organic chemistry.  That day…everything changed!!

I applied only to the naturopathic medical school…if I got in, that was my sign!!!

I got in…and after 4 more years of school I graduated in 2007 and have been practicing ever since.  With no regrets and only love for what I do…I can proudly call myself a Naturopathic Doctor!
